Our Story
Gentleman John’s Classic Barber Shop is a contemporary barbershop with a classic appeal for the modern man. Owned by Jared Hesse, who has been barbering in Lynchburg for over 27 years, he named the shop after his grandfather John Heckman, who was a well-known and respected business owner in the area for over 30 years. A man deserves to be groomed and given a luxury experience and at Gentleman John’s that’s exactly what they can expect.
The reason for the change of the name to Gentleman John’s Classic Legacy is because gentleman John’s is more than a barbershop. The brand is about excellence in customer service and excellence In the way we live our lives to be able to perform our services with excellence The lifestyle outside of the barbershop has everything to do with the Barber’s success in building a clientele in his community. We are leaving a legacy of raising the value of the Barber worldwide.

Gentleman John’s sells Proraso Shave products and uses them for the Traditional Shave Ritual. Some of the Proraso products include soap in a bowl, after shave balm, pre-shave cream, and after shave lotion. Whether a simple haircut or beard trim, classic straight-razor shave, kids’ haircut, or any services, Gentleman John’s delivers quality and excellence from Monday-Saturday.

Simply the best barbers in Lynchburg! They take their time, they are very detailed and professional. It is always a great atmosphere and a positive environment. I highly recommend. I always come out feeling refreshed, relaxed, and rejuvenated! Paige is my barber and is fantastic! But, I know people who have had their hair cut by the rest of the staff and they have the same experience and feedback. Don't expect to pay great clips prices but it is well worth the money.

I don’t typically write reviews but this is worth it. Great location, this barbershop is clean, uses reservations so you are never waiting, timely, professional and affordable. I have yet to find a place that matches the price, amount of time, care, passion, and intentionality put in to their service let alone the outstanding quality. Easily my favorite barbershop!

Giving Back To Our Community
Gentleman John’s Classic Legacy adds, “We appreciate the support from the downtown Lynchburg community and look forward to many years moving forward.”
M4K Lynchburg is a volunteer-run organization with the goal of raising money for local children’s charities while having fun growing mustaches. In 2014 Chris Boswell and Lanny Duncan recruited 32 guys in Lynchburg to grow mustaches for a great cause. Eight years later we have over 160 “growers” and have raised over 1 MILLION dollars for the children of Lynchburg.
Jared Hesse donates his time and energy as the Head Football Coach for a local Middle School. He enjoys it and is passionate about raising boys in to strong men. He doesn't plan on quitting at any time.
Gentleman John’s Classic Barber Shop offers free haircuts for the homeless at the Lynchburg Salvation Army. We do this several times throughout the year.
